ST. JOHN'S UNIVERSITY, QUEENS, NY
"It's been a very rewarding experience working with AKF who has helped us meet our commitment to campus wide carbon footprint reduction. Their expertise has been invaluable in advising us on connecting all of our buildings with direct digital controls in a single network and they'll continue to assist with Mayor Bloomberg's "3010 Challenge", manage our costs, and provide a healthier environment for our students and faculty. They have provided us with creative and yet practical solutions to meet our infrastructure upgrades while respecting our capital constraints."

COLD SPRING HARBOR LABS, COLD SPRING HARBOR, NY
"The Hillside Laboratories comprise six distinct research buildings, yet form a single complex. This seeming paradox is explained by the fact that the Laboratories are literally built into a hillside and are interconnected beneath ground level. In this way, the architects ingeniously made a virtue of the site's steep gradient. Important shared facilities are located in the underground areas accessible to all of the buildings. The computational Research Facility is an information technology hub housing sophisticated machines that will provide high-end computational power for all Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory scientists; and a state-of-the-art animal laboratory which will provide new space in which researchers will, for instance, explore novel approaches to cancer therapy and observe the behavior of animals that model human cognitive defects."
"The complexity of the project presented many engineering challenges including being able to precisely heat and cool spaces used for so many different functions in an energy efficient manner without compromising health and safety. In addition, the laboratories have unique power and other mechanical requirements."
"AKF Engineering was selected from a group of more than several engineering firms that were considered to be part of the design team. Under the skillful leadership of Mike Sammut, one of the partners, AKF put together an excellent group of engineers to work on the project who were all an invaluable part of the design team. AKF's approach to the project was very academic in many ways but it was also very practical and well thought out resulting in great engineering that I am sure will meet all of the challenges outlined above well into the future."

THE STATE UNVIERSITY OF NEW JERSEY RUTGERS, NEWARK, NJ
"AKF has been a great asset for our design team on the Life Sciences Center. They are the type of designers that take ownership of the project. This project was extremely difficult to design and construct given the limited amount of space and a very tight budget. It has come to a successful ending."
