Beacon Capital
Fuel Cell Study & Design
New York, NY
AKF was retained by Beacon Capital and collaborated with UTC Power to prepare a combined heat and power feasibility study and design. The feasibility study focused on the installation options of PureCell Fuel Cells. Several 400kW fuel cell configurations were evaluated. The low temperature and high temperature hot water waste heat from the fuel cell will be used during the winter months to supplement the building perimeter heating systems and domestic hot water. During the summer months the fuel cell will be used to provide a large portion of the building domestic hot water. The study was submitted by Beacon Capital to NYSERDA to obtain funding for a portion of the project construction cost.
The conclusion of the report was that the installation a single 400kW fuel cell was the optimal size based on available economic incentives, building electrical service demand profiles, and waste heat uses. The project is currently in construction and scheduled for operation towards the end of the year.
