Freeport Power Plant
Freeport, NY
AKF functioned as the prime design consultant for the installation of one 48-megawatt dual fuel, gas turbine generator. The simple cycle plant is designed to provide power during periods of peak demand during all seasons.
The power plant equipment included one 48-megawatt, GE LM6000, Sprint Combustion Turbine Generator model gas turbine, gas booster system, electric drive refrigeration machine, cooling towers, mechanical auxiliary building, electrical auxiliary building, ammonia tank, demineralized water system, transformers and switch gear. The generator produces electric power at 13.8 KV, which is then stepped up, to 69 KV for connection into the power grid. Additional transformers of 13.8 KV to 4.16 KV and 480 volts were used to support the power plant equipment. Power distribution feeders were installed underground in concrete duct banks for connection to the local utility company.
