Greenwich High School

Musical Instruction Space and Auditorium Addition

Greenwich, CT

AKF is proud to partner with Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) in a continual effort to improve their various education institutions, from elementary through high school.

When the total enrollment for curricular music and theater courses at Greenwich High School exceeded 1,400 — significantly higher than the existing theater and performing arts spaces could accommodate — GPS sought an alternative to turning children away from the program. GPS invested in a renovated Musical Instruction Space and Auditorium (MISA) to not only accommodate students, but to provide them with the best performing arts space possible. The new, three-level auditorium has a capacity for 1,325 seats, with an orchestra pit lift that rises and lowers beneath the stage.

Given the existing partnership with GPS, AKF’s Commissioning and Testing team provided support to the new and renovated spaces, working with the design and construction teams throughout construction. AKF developed the commissioning report and systems manuals, created test scripts, provided functional testing, and then provided a 10-month warranty review. AKF also trained the facilities staff to make sure equipment will be operated correctly. These steps ensure GPS continued high level performance of equipment for years to come.
